Subject: "Conservative" atheists

Comment: To continue... "gay rights" - being gay shouldn't deprive you of any rights. I believe this topic might really mean "gay marriage rights," so I'll address that, at risk of accusations of missing the point. The government has an interest in the formation of families for two reasons - taxation and next of kin rights and priveliges. Once those two elements are recognized, I see no reason why anyone need concern themselves with either the gender or the number of consenting adults wishing to declare themselves to be a family. "Socialized medicine" - The medical care system in the US is definitely broken, but it's broken because of too much regulation and interference. More regulation and interference won't help that a bit. Open the industry to those practitioners who may not be qualified to be physicians, but ARE qualified to provide care for specific circumstances. Right now, the people who receive treatment aren't the ones who pay for it, so they expect Lamborghini care on a Yugo budget. "immigration" - I'm not real sure. I would prefer open borders, but I now realize that there are plenty of people who would overwhelm our society with their numbers alone if allowed to emigrate. I'm still learning. "gun control" - I believe the second amendment contains wisdom. However, I also believe it is wise to require competence on the part of gun owners. Accidents are inexcusable, including the ones where a kid gets someone's gun and shoots himself.
